B.A.S.S. is an EP that explores a soundscape that is often overlooked when discussing hiphop from the dirty south. Miami is known for the bass sound that exploded in the 80's and throughout the 90's. Even as time went on, artists from this region were pigeonholed by the standards of club music. In this album, veteran emcee Orion pulls what some might call a bait and switch. This album has nothing to do with the original Miami bass sound. It pays homage to it with the intro and outro otherwise its all raw hiphop from the mind of a Dade County emcee.
The acronym Brass and Silver Slugs is mainly due to the fact that the majority of this album has features. The features are the Silver Slugs and Orion is the Brass. Only two tracks were not produced by Orion all the features with the exception of Thirstin Howl the 3rd are Miami Dade County Emcees. The respect this region has fought for and continues to fight for is an ongoing battle for emcees like Orion.
In conclusion, this is just the first installment of three EP's that carry the same concept. We hope you enjoy this project, it is in no way meant to disrespect the Miami bass sound and/or community. Keep it locked, play it loud so it can quadruple, and let this be a taste of true lyricism from the 305.
