KINGPEN by Beedie

A concept album inspired by the Marvel comics villain Kingpin, Pittsburgh rapper Beedie brings his sharpest pen-game yet, over a full record dizzying head-nodding gems from the legendary New Jersey producer Brainorchestra. From the veteran emcee's fresh take on conceptual records, to braggadocios bars over hard hitting beats, and everything in between -- this record is loosely meant to be taken from the perspective of the fictional "KINGPEN" character -- an homage to the rapper's love for comics and mafia movies alike. And an album like this wouldn't be complete without the accompanying comic book that comes with the vinyl -- which features the story of the "KINGPEN" character overcoming the many obstacles of the music business in a satirical take on navigating the different roads as an artist. The actual process of creating the comic book is an incredible story in itself, being that it was created by Beedie himself by stitching together scanned images of Kingpin from classic Amazing Spider-Man stories of the '60's and '70's. And just like the process of sampling in hip-hop -- these individual pieces that were taken from already existing piece of media -- were then rearranged, manipulated, and altered, to form a new sequence that tells an entirely new story. The comic book is available for free with purchase of the vinyl. This will also be Beedie's first ever vinyl release, and was completed self funded -- which is fitting, as the producer of this album Brainorchestra has made a name for himself by self producing and selling thousands of records over the years as a producer and rapper himself.
